The News and Media

News is the broadcasting, or distribution of recent events. These events could be something such as the Earthquakes in Haiti or a recent election of a Mayor in your town. News must not only be relevant, but also be something people care about and will read, listen and watch. Media is the circulation of news whether it is by means of television, newspapers, magazine, radio, the internet etc. This communication must attract consumers and connect with them in order to get the news across to them. Without the media, no one would have any concept of what is happening in the world. For example, if there was no media and instead people relied on word of mouth, by the time someone heard of the specific story, there may be a new occurance in that same story. News is constantly changing and it is the media's responsibility to keep up with the shifting stories.
The media can be both negative and positive at the same time. It can provide entertainment and knowledge, but the media may not always be 100% accurate. Newspapers, radio and television stations can tell the consumers anything they want and we perceive it as news. Lyndon B. Johnson once said, "If one morning I walked on top of the water accross the Potomac River, the headline that afternoon would read: President Can't Swim." The media has the power to report, our responsibility as consumers is deciding whether it is accurate or not.
