A Successful Feature

For a feature to be successful, the writer needs to go in-depth on the issue. They are unlike news stories that talk about current topics; feature’s are much longer and can be presented in an opinionated form.

Feature’s can be written similarly to news stories as well, but instead of starting with a hard lead, a feature should start with an opening paragraph that sets the scene of the story.

The opening paragraph needs to be able to draw the reader in quickly. Maybe put some information about the person or subjects history that is appealing to the audience. The information in the introduction should then be brought out in the middle and ending of the feature to show its importance.

The flow of the story is very important as well. As the writer you have to make sure all the information in the feature is organized appropriately. The reader must be able to go from one thing to the next consecutively otherwise the information could be confusing to the reader if it is not chronological.

Finally, the paragraphs should be short just like other journalist stories and the writer should use quotes that are less informational, but show the personality of the person being interviewed.
