What makes a good feature?

When writing a good feature one must first be aware and understand that this is different from writing a news story. Although your feature might be about an event or something that is happening around your community, it is much more in depth than a regular story.

Unlike a straight news story that utilizes the inverted pyramid, as stated by the book, a feature story is much more detailed because it not only grabs the audience and keeps them interested.

It also is very unique because of the main fact that sometimes in the beginning paragraphs, more of a scenic setting is established instead of just a straight identification.

When the reader has been drawn in it is then the writers job to keep the reader interested. Although many features might be less official and more relaxed they still must deliver the story correctly and accurately.

In conclusion, in order for the feature to not only be “good,” the feature story must include specific quotes from multiple sources in order to back up the story and not only authenticate it, but to also keep readers interests and to make the story more interesting and more valuable.
