can you have one without the other?

Broadcasting news on the radio and television stimulates different senses than that of print news, in order to keep the viewer stimulated the news is delivered differently.

Broadcast news uses visuals and excerpts to keep the viewer engaged, and are typically focused on breaking news.

Broadcast really focusing on the "important" news which tends to differ depending of if the new agency is local or national. Local news tends to focus on robberies, while national is more political.
Printed news can go into greater depth, and give a greater array of news stories, attracting a more diverse market.

However print news lacks the active tone that broadcast brings.

If news is urgent a person would most likely turn on the television or radio before looking for the story in print; the exception being online media.
