Radio/TV Broadcast vs Print

A good radio/TV broadcast is most often done in conjunction with other things so it is important to catch the viewer’s attention.

In print this is achieved by writing an inverted pyramid style lead which gives the reader all the important facts such as who, what, where, when, why and the how of the story.

Also, with broadcast journalists have to be quick about their reporting, the writing has to be tight and written in a conversational manner.

Whereas in print the journalist has more time and space to put the information in because they are not set to a five minute piece.

An advantage of broadcast reporting is that the journalist can emphasize things that they cannot in print, using tones in his or her voice or hand gestures.
