What makes a speech or meeting story interesting?

There are many factors in which it takes to make a speech or meeting story story interesting. One thing that is true for all of them, is that it is crucial that a reporter gets enough background information on the speaker. This has to do with the preparation. Another aspect of preparation could include contacting the speaker for a brief interview, if it is that important of a story. Preparing to cover the events is just the start. It is important to remember to cover the entire event, and not just the speech/news conference/meeting, including the time, place, circumstances, and number of people invited. It is important to be thorough and accurate on everything. It is also key to be thoughtful and observant. Using as many sources and checking as many documents as possible helps bring in the best results. The biggest single failure of inexperienced reporters is leaving gaps in a story, so it is important to avoid that. Overall, as long as you follow the guidelines, prepare properly, and use all the facts and quotes you should be all set to write a well-written, interesting story.
