Public Relations

Public relations is a branch of communications that manages the communication between an organization and the public. Any company that has a say in what they want to be portrayed as in the public has some level of public relations.

An example of good PR as oppose to bad PR is when the public relations branch speak at conferences, work with the media and engage in social media. Good public relations helps the company or organization have a high-quality image.

When writing for PR, you are most likely writing press releases and news releases as oppose to hard news stories. PR writers are a lot like attorneys in the way they write. They advocate for their clients.

They do not lie or distort what they are trying to say about their clients, but they may ignore certain facts, while praising others. Unlike PR stories, news stories have the facts upfront and in your face.
