Public Relations...A Different Type of Communications

Public relations is a big part of everyone’s lives.
According to the book, public relations needs to have public interest, two-way communication, performance, management function, and should be planned and deliberate. Public relations is everywhere, and can be something simple, such as an announcement that a famous speaker is visiting your school.
When someone writes for public relations, it is not like writing for news.
When you write for public relations, one of your goals is to advertise goodwill.
Certain news stories may advertise goodwill, but that is not the main objective for most news stories.
An example of something that would be written for public relations would be advertising a certain fundraiser.
An example of writing a news story would be explaining the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11th in 2001.
Writing news stories might also take longer.
When you write for public relations, you have to make your topic short and to the point in some cases.
In most cases, when you’re writing a news story, you have to elaborate on it and include more details.
Sometimes, writing for public relations also means making a poster, which is never the case with a news story.
