Public Relations

Writers for public relations have a different purpose in their goals for reaching an audience. Where a reporter is simply trying to make the audience aware of news while being as objective as possible, a public-relations writer is trying to persuade a target audience of a particular position.

Effective communicators in the field of PR are looking out for the best interests of the people for whom they are working. They need to know what to do, why and how to evaluate its effectiveness.

Unlike reporting, PR communicators take more of a scientific approach. They are concerned with the message the organization or business wants to send and works to provide how best to accomplish this.

PR writers are like reporters because both sides need credibility, good relations with the public, and a grasp on how to use AP style. The inverted pyramid is very important in both sides of writing, although it is possible to go beyond this and use the stories of real people to get the point across.

As PR writer, you must always be available for people to contact you. It’s also important to know the right people to contact so the news release will get published.
