The Job of Journalism

The job of a journalist is multifaceted and can take on many forms, all of which deal with the transfer of information.


First, and most obvious, a journalist a journalist is responsible for writing about or reporting on the current events happening around the world and locally.


Furthermore a journalist is responsible for research. A journalist must not only be up to date on what is going on, but the reasons the event is taking place, why, how, and who is involved in the action or event.


Along with their research journalist are required to gather proof, usually through the use of quotations or photographs.


However the job doesn’t end there.


Once a story is published or broadcasted, the journalist must be able to be held accountable for his or her story. This means fact checking the story both before and after publishing, and in some cases a follow up story.


So, what is the job of a journalist?


A journalist is to be honest and unbiased and report the facts of current events to readers and consumers.


Journalists are the storytellers of today.
